Healthy morning rituals has a great impact on your day. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
I am a morning person, always have been and probably always will be. I usually wake up between 7 and 9 a.m. If I sleep past that time I will wake up in a shock because my body does not allow me to sleep in, even if it’s the weekend and even if I’ve had a long night. I have come to enjoy being a morning person and a couple of months ago I started getting into a morning routine that sets the tone for a positive day. All of these things just put me in a better mind space, rather than complaining about the day before I even get out of the bed.
The very first thing that I do in the morning is to try not to grab my phone, I am guilty of laying in the bed scrolling through my phone for 45 minutes to an hour. I realized that my time could be spent so much more productive rather than catching up on The Shade Room or watching how 30+ people spent their night via IG Stories. This allows me to check in with myself before checking in with the rest of the world.
The next thing that I do is open the blinds, something about natural sunlight instantly energizes me. Tea time – I like to have green tea with lemon or classic chai. Sometimes I like to meditate and light a candle while I make my tea, I usually just do a short meditation in the morning and save longer ones for the evening. (I use the Headspace app) I always go for an aromatherapy candle for the morning, my favorite right now is the Energy Orange + Ginger from Bath & Body Works.
After this I grab the book I’m currently reading (which is Power of Now) and try to read at least 10-20 pages. The theme of my current book collection is either self-help books or inspiring memoirs so this is the perfect way to gain some morning motivation. If I decide to do a face-mask in the morning, I’ll set a timer for 20 minutes and read while I have the face-mask on. Immediately after I’ll journal for 5 minutes and then go over my to-do-list for the day.
Finally, I turn on a mood boosting playlist and do all of the morning essentials – shower, brush teeth, skincare routine, etc. Sometimes I check my phone after all of this is done but sometimes I don’t make it past tea time without looking.
So, these are my morning rituals that I’m really enjoying. There are a few things that I would like to add gradually, like going to the gym, creating an affirmation jar, and actually forcing myself to eat breakfast because if you noticed, I skipped that part. I’m not a fan of breakfast, and I never have an appetite in the morning but I know how healthy eating breakfast is so I’ll have to figure that out.
If you don’t have a morning routine that makes you feel good before you leave the house, I encourage you to get one. If you do have one, I will love to hear about it! Comment below or tweet me (@1ShyannS)! I will be doing a night routine soon because that is also really important for me.
